The WoWz @ SXSW by proxy and a few other updates...  ///  Saturday, 10  ///  dispatch from Chris!

SXSW 2007 has started and though none of our wonderful acts are making the trip down to Austin this year, The WoWz will be featured by proxy: Aaron Woolf's wonderful documentary King Corn will be premiering at the SXSW Film Festival on Sunday, March 11th. The WoWz recorded all the music for the film and man, it sounds good! We had a chance to catch an advance screening this past September and we were duly impressed. 'King Corn' is an important film that everyone should seek out... We're going to do our best to stock some DVD copies in the RiYL Store. Watch the trailer here.

In other WoWz news, Salon.com continues their love affair with the band. The WoWz' "My Baby Loves Me" (available in the downloads section) was included on the Salon.com Valentine's Day playlist alongside tracks by Tom Waits, Jens Lekman and Neko Case. Cool! On an unrelated note, WoWz drummer Johnny Dydo will be traveling overseas in April with Huggabroomstik for a two-week tour of Germany. Huggabroomstik will be supporting their fantastic new double-album, Ultimate Huggabroomstik (Luv-A-Lot), which also features RiYL's Chris Maher.

Chris Maher is currently in Seattle, working hard to finish his debut, Epigram on the Death of a Feeling. He just might do it this time... His 2006 Travelogue, "After the Electric Moon", is being published by Urban Folk. 'Part 1' and 'Part 2' were published in Urban Folk #9 and #10, respectively. The final installment, 'Part 3', is due out in the next issue, Urban Folk #11. In addition to the recently released Ultimate Huggabroomstik, Chris appears on Jack Lewis' new record, Lvov goes to emandee w/ my unicef box, released by Smoking Gun in the UK. He recently contributed some vocals to the debut record from Seattle, Washington's Throw Me the Statue which is due out soon on Baskerville Hill.

Last but not least, The Fugue are planning an East Coast tour starting at the beginning of April. We'll announce the full-dates as soon as we've got 'em but you can see how things are shaping up at the band's MySpace page. More news on the rest of the RiYL roster soon...

Hearts,
R i Y L
