Our good friends from Chicago, The Narrator, are calling it quits, and we are playing a show to help them celebrate all the rocking out that has been. This is the first Pathways show in over a year, and it will likely be the last one for quite a while too, as David will soon be going all Canadian on us. So please come and drink to the end of an era, or, if you prefer, the beginning of a beautiful hiatus.

Details:

Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 8:00pm
Red Door (no marquee — it's just a red door)
140 W. 24th btwn 6th and 7th Ave.

Also playing are The End of the World, Oxford Collapse and, bien sur, The Narrator. We're on first, so step lively.

With love,
The Pathways

If you're a Pathways fan, don't miss this rare opportunity to catch the band live!

Maniacal Mechanic

From the opening seconds of "Maniacal Mechanic", its clear that NYC's Dream Bitches have turned up the volume for their sophomore LP, Coke-and-Spiriters. Pounding drum beats and dirty guitars anchor this treasure of a song. As on their debut, lead Dream Bitches Yoko Kikuchi and Ann Zakaluk deliver pitch-perfect harmonies that cut through the band's new cacophonous sound. Though Coke-and-Spiriters is not all rock and bombast, over the course of the record's ten songs, the band proves that its a force to be reckoned with.

The Fugue Break Up! Cutter Rises From Ashes!

Say it ain't so! The Fugue have broken up. After several US tours, two 7-inches, one EP and a handful of tour-only releases, NYC's favorite troublemakers have called it quits. Needless to say, we're sad to see them go. Fortunately, with this bad news comes some good news: Rising from The Fugue's ashes is Cutter - a leaner, meaner group set to make its debut at Williamsburg's Death By Audio on Friday, March 21st 2008. The band has already posted some new tunes to their MySpace page and they sound killer. Don't miss their debut:

That Song

The original version of Casey Holford's "That Song" was the penultimate track on his stellar 2005 release, All Young and Beautiful. It was one of the highlights of that album - lushly produced and beautifully performed. Here, Casey deconstructs the song, speeding the tempo and offering a more punky and playful performance. It shows Casey's range and offers a unique interpretation of a song so great it doesn't matter how its played! Download it here and find it on his 2007 split release with Yoko Kikuchi, the "This Song / That Song" EP.

Chris Maher is back in New York City and will be playing Deli Magazine's "Unofficial" CMJ Party at Fontana's on October 20th. Its an early show (starts at 12 noon sharp!) and Chris will play first. Bring yr coffee! If you happen to miss that, Chris will also be competing in the 4th Annual Williamsburg Live Songwriters Contest (playing his song "Heather") at Laila Lounge on November 3rd. He's got other shows scheduled at the Brooklyn Tea Party in mid-November and a Jezebel Music Songwriter Showcase show at Laila Lounge in mid-December. More shows in the works...

Word has it, The WoWz's tour of Europe has been a smashing success. <del>One more</del> TWO MORE shows are scheduled, both opening for Herman Dune - first in Belgium on October 17th, then in France on October 18th. If you happened to catch a recent WoWz show, don't hesitate to send us your pictures or videos... We'd love to live vicariously through you. Oh, and good news for those of you in New York: The WoWz will be playing a homecoming show at Union Hall in Park Slope, Brooklyn on Friday, October 26th. They'll be sharing the bill with their buddies in The Brunettes, who recently put out a great record on Sub Pop. Don't miss it!

In other WoWz news, the new Mosaic Films documentary, King Corn, for which The WoWz recorded the soundtrack, premiered at New York's Cinema Village yesterday. We sent a few folks to an opening-day screening and they couldn't stop raving about it! We think its a 'must see' for anyone who eats food produced in the United States. (Yes, we mean you!) For those not yet familiar with the film, we encourage you to get acquainted:

Quick Note from Ms. Schiffman...

A quick note from Ms. Rebecca Schiffman came in on the wire. It read:

Hello French friends and friends who may be in France,

I am writing to let you know that tomorrow (Lundi) at 11am I will be interviewed by one of my favorite singers Nicolas Vidal on his show "Petit compagnie" on ALIGRE 93.1 FM

If you are in town please listen. I have never done this before so we'll see how it goes. If I can find a guitar in time I will perform on air as well. If not then we'll just talk in broken English/French and play the recordings.

Bises,
Rebecca

So tomorrow, August 6th, 2007, at 11:00 AM, those of you in France should certainly tune in. For those in the rest of the world, perhaps you can listen in by going to the Aligre FM website? No promises...
