THREE YEARS YOUNG!  ///  Friday, 18  ///  dispatch from Chris!

Wow! Recommended If You Like Records has been a record label for THREE WHOLE YEARS! Back on May 18th, 2004, RiYL released its first record, The Morningsides' Debut 7-inch, and since then, we’ve put out two full-length albums (three if you count the free 'Cool Dump' download!), two EPs and two more 7-inches. We’ve also had the distinct pleasure of peddling and promoting great releases by some of our closest friends. All the while, a number of RiYL acts have toured all over the United States and Europe. Not bad! The best part is that things only promise to get better…

After a relatively slow 2006, the remainder of 2007 promises to be very busy. First off, we’d like to welcome a new member to our crew: Hannah Horovitz. Hannah will soon be in charge of our mail order and we couldn’t be more thrilled. She’ll be living in the Northwest so don’t be surprised if your packages start arriving from Washington State instead of New York City! Hannah’s previously spent time working at Kill Rock Stars, SpinArt and WVKR, so we know she’s up to any task we throw her way!

We’re also proud to announce that in the next few months, we’ll be adding most (if not all) of our catalog to digital music stores like iTunes and eMusic. Appropriately, The Morningsides' single will be the first release to go live and others will follow shortly thereafter. Hooray! But, hey: You can already get an MP3 The Morningsides’ “Summer Song” FOR FREE. What are you waiting for?

What will likely be our next two releases are both eagerly anticipated and long-in-the-making: Chris Maher's debut, Epigram on the Death of a Feeling, and Rebecca Schiffman's sophomore release, To Be Good for a Day. We’ve heard some of each and can tell you this: Both will be well worth the wait. Also in our future will be a new release or two from The WoWz and maybe someday we’ll finally release Secret Salamander’s stellar Beebles record.

Several RiYL-related tours are scheduled to start in the next few months. This Summer, Yoko Kikuchi and Casey Holford will be playing select dates up and down the East Coast. In the Fall, The WoWz and Chris Maher will be spending three weeks traveling all over Western Europe. For those of you in New York, as always, there’ll be plenty of RiYL-related shows to go around.

You may notice that our storefront section is in a transitional phase. We’re remodeling things a bit, adding ‘buttons’ instead of text-based links. We’re also about to move from a ‘postage-paid’ pricing system to a ‘price-plus-shipping’ system. The USPS, for the second time in as many years, has raised their shipping rates. As a result, we must (regrettably) charge a little bit more for shipping and handling. That said, some of our pre-postage prices will soon be LOWER and if you order a lot of RiYL stuff at once, you may end up paying LESS. That’s cool, right?

To conclude, we’d like to send out a huge “THANKS!” to anyone who’s ever purchased one of our records, gone to see one of our artists play or been involved in some other sort of way. We couldn’t have done it without you! We hope that you’ll continue to dig the records we release and the artists we work with.

Sincerely,
Your Friends at Recommended If You Like Records
